Web and Mobile Device Requirements
ServiceCEO offers numerous add on features that are available via the Web and Mobile devices. To take advantage of those features you may need to purchase additional software and hardware. Below is a description of those features.
Remote Access
To configure remote access to your ServiceCEO system, you will need the following things:
- An Operating System that can run IIS (Internet Information Server) 5.0 or greater. IIS is Microsoft's business-class Web server. You can manage IIS through the Internet Services Manager, a graphical console. Generally, operating systems that run IIS are labeled "Pro" or are operating systems designed for a server.
- Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) will need to allow inbound connections; advanced setup of your internet connection may be required. In addition, your ISP may have restrictions (i.e., blocking of port 80 and/or 1433). If so, you should change the port number that your web server uses to respond to client requests from 80 and/or 1433 to another, non-blocked number.
For more details, please read the Network Configuration Overview topic of the ServiceCEO Help System.
Use the following wireless devices to access ServiceCEO from the field.
|
Mobile Telephone with Openwave® WAP browser |
| BlackBerry® wireless handhelds and pagers | |
| Mobile phones with SmartPhone technology | |
| Internet Explorer 5.0+, Netscape Navigator 3.0+, and more | |
| For a complete listing of compatible devices, please visit products_access. | |
Note: You may be able to use other wireless devices, as long as they can connect to the Internet. However, each product may behave differently, or not work at all, depending on its exact make, model, installed software, and
network connection.
To test your particular device to see if it is compatible with ServiceCEO's Mobile Tech Web Access, point your browser to http://www.insightdirect.com/mobile-device-test/. In
addition, you can contact your account representative for details about testing your specific wireless device.
To enable customer and/or mobile tech access to ServiceCEO, you must have a web server - a publicly accessible Machine to which your remote users will connect. The web server will need a static IP address or a domain name to identify it on the Internet. If you do not have a static IP address, you can use a dynamic DNS provider (like www.tzo.com) to identify your Machine on the Internet using a domain name (i.e., www.yahoo.com). In addition, you must be running IIS (Internet Information Server) 5.0 or greater.
Before you begin, you should check to see if your ISP blocks port 80 access on your Internet connection. If so, you should change the port number that your web server uses to respond to client requests from 80 to another, non-blocked number.
Note that while you can use Windows XP Professional as your web server, it runs Internet Information Server (IIS) 5.1, which, by default, only supports 10 connections. For many companies, these are not enough connections to support everyone who needs to access ServiceCEO. While you can, if you wish, increase IIS' connections limit to 40, if you want to support more then 40 concurrent users, you will need to use either Windows Server 2000 or Windows Server 2003.
